Agnes Jama was born 1911 in Dürnstein, on the Donau near Vienna. She died in 1993 in The Hague.
Both parents were art painters, her father Matija Jama was Slovenian and her mother Louise van Raders of Dutch descent. Agnes was educated from a young age along with her sister Madeleine in the artist setting of their mother in The Hague. She studied piano with, among others composer/pianist Bernard van den Sigtenhorst Meyer in The Hague.
She was a piano teacher and gave concerts as a pianist for which she received much praise.
Compositions
She wrote five major works, three published by Donemus and two unpublished works (Sonate for violoncello and piano and Drie Liederen, songs on texts by Jil de la Rie: Musing, Song and Dance). For the Suite for violin and piano she received a prize in the 1950's from the Johan Wagenaar foundation. Theo Olof and Theo van der Plas performed her work in that period. In her works influences of Slovenian tonality and rhythm, melancholy and playful melodics can be perceived.
