Margriet Hoenderdos was born on May 6, 1952 in Santpoort.
Education
She studied compositon with Ton de Leeuw at the Amsterdam Conservatory, where she also worked in the electronic studio. Prior to this she studied piano with Thom Bollen at the Conservatory in Zwolle. She completed her composition studies in 1985 and received the so-called Prize for Composition.
Activities
Hoenderdos gave lessons in contemporary music at the music school in Zwolle where she also worked as piano teacher from 1977 to 1987. Since 1987 zij is exclusively operative as composer. Her work was central during the Rumori Days in 1999.
Compositions
Hoenderdos composes for diverse instrumentaion, with a focus on chamber music. She also wrote works to accompany mime and dance performances. Since 1990 the titles of her works are the months of the calender and the year in which the composition was completed. The first work that was so entitled was July '90 for orchestra, and was performed by the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Lucas Vis during the Dutch Music Days 1990. The composition Augustus '93 for string quartet was performed a number of times by the 'Quator Danel', which also performed the premiere of the string sextet Maart '98. Additional important pieces in Hoenderdos' oeuvre: December '91 for two Eflat clarinets, Januari '94 for percussion, Februari '01 for two
trombones, December '03 for baritone and piano and Maart '05 for trumpet.
