Henriette Bosmans was born on December 6, 1895 in Amsterdam and died there on July 2, 1952. She was the daughter of Henri Bosmans, solo cellist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, and Sarah Bosmans Benedicts, pianist.

Musical education

She received piano lessons from her mother and studied theory with J.W. Kersbergen and composition with Cornelis Dopper. Poème for violoncello and orchestra drew the attention of Willem Pijper, with whom she studied from 1927 until 1930.

Activities

Henriette Bosmans was the first pianist who played Pijper's Concerto for piano in addition to the composer himself. She appeared regularly as a soloist with orchestra, in chamber music and in recitals with, among others, the violinists Louis Zimmerman and Francis Koene and the cellist Marnix Loevensohn.

Composities

She composed her first works at the age of 17. Among her compositions are: 2 Concertos and Poème for violoncello and orchestra; Concertstukken for flute and for violin with orchestra; a Concertino for piano and orchestra (performed during the ISCM festival 1929 in Geneva); songs with piano and with orchestra (Belsazer, for contralto and orchestra), and compositions for chamber music and for piano.

On CD the following works are released: Quartet for strings (BFO A1), Verzen uit Maria Lécina for voice and piano (BFO A18) and Concertstuk for flute and chamber orchestra, Poème for violoncello and orchestra and Concertino for piano and orchestra (NM Special 92095).
